Overview
Mareez William is Head of Pharmacovigilance for the Middle East, Turkey and Africa (META) at Arcera Life Sciences, with over a decade of experience in pharmacovigilance, drug safety, and regulatory compliance across complex and highly regulated markets. Her professional focus includes the design, implementation, and governance of pharmacovigilance systems, with a strong emphasis on patient safety, regulatory alignment, and sustainable compliance frameworks.
In her current role, Mareez provides strategic and operational oversight of pharmacovigilance activities across the META region. She leads and governs Qualified Persons for Pharmacovigilance (QPPVs), Deputy QPPVs, and Local Safety Representatives (LSRs), while also maintaining oversight of external pharmacovigilance service providers and regional partners. Her responsibilities include ensuring inspection readiness, effective safety risk management, and the consistent performance of pharmacovigilance systems in accordance with both global standards and local regulatory requirements.
Mareez holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy from Ain Shams University and has completed extensive professional training in pharmacovigilance, including inspection readiness, aggregate safety reporting, risk management, audits, and GCC regulatory requirements, supported by continuous development in quality systems, compliance, and data protection.
Mareez brings extensive hands‑on experience in building and developing pharmacovigilance systems, having played a key role in establishing and strengthening PV frameworks in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates. Her expertise spans Pharmacovigilance System Master Files (PSMFs), safety data exchange agreements, audits and inspections, Business Partners management, CAPA management, and regional PV quality management systems. She works closely with global pharmacovigilance, medical, regulatory, and quality teams to ensure aligned and compliant implementation across multiple jurisdictions.
She places strong emphasis on teamwork and cross‑functional collaboration, with extensive experience managing multicultural regional teams, pharmacovigilance partners, and service providers. Her leadership approach focuses on clear governance, effective communication, capability building, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous professional development across pharmacovigilance functions.
Beyond organizational leadership, Mareez is an active contributor to the regional pharmacovigilance community. She has served for several consecutive years as a moderator at the GCC Pharmacovigilance Summit, facilitating expert‑level discussions on regulatory developments, inspection readiness, and pharmacovigilance best practices. This involvement reflects her ongoing commitment to professional dialogue, knowledge sharing, and the advancement of drug safety standards across the region.
