New Haven, CT – Yale School of Medicine and Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital have announced the appointment of Mona Sharifi, MD, MPH, as Section Chief of General Pediatrics, effective September 1, 2024.
Dr. Sharifi, a renowned pediatric expert with a focus on obesity prevention and healthcare delivery, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her new role. She is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics (General Pediatrics) and Biomedical Informatics and Data Science at Yale School of Medicine, and Associate Professor of Biostatistics (Health Informatics) at the Yale School of Public Health.

A board-certified pediatrician and clinical informatician, Dr. Sharifi has received numerous awards and recognitions for her contributions to the field. Furthermore, she is a member of several professional societies and serves on the editorial board of the journal Childhood Obesity.
Dr. Sharifi’s research has focused on improving pediatric primary care delivery systems to prevent chronic diseases and promote health equity. Moreover, she has led several NIH-funded studies evaluating interventions for childhood obesity.
In her new role, Dr. Sharifi will oversee the Section of General Pediatrics and be responsible for building robust programs in research, education, and quality improvement. She will also lead a newly-established Program in Pediatric Health Services and Implementation Research.
