Health tips to stay energised during Last 10 Nights of Ramadan

By Ayesha Ayath Aslam

Fasting benefits mind, body, and soul, but maximizing it requires know-how. MedEdge shares 7 expert tips for staying energized during Ramadan's final 10 nights while seeking spiritual rewards.

Be wise with your food choice

Opt for protein-rich foods (fish, beans), fiber-packed options (whole grains), and healthy fats (avocado, yogurt) for sustained energy and satiety. Avoid salty, oily, and sugary snacks; opt for fruits, nuts, and veggies instead.

Choose meal over feast,  but divided

An extremely healthy strategy to adopt is — eating in moderation and breaking down your food and fluid intake. Overeating leads to abdominal discomfort by putting more pressure on your digestive system at once, causing high levels of lethargy.

Delay your suhoor but never skip it!

The main purpose of suhoor is to provide you with enough energy to survive the day. Missing that will leave you exhausted, until you eat again. But, a heavy meal will cause you to feel sleepy, so have a light meal with lots of fluids

Water is a must!

Don’t wait until you are thirsty, drink at least 8 glasses of water in parts during the non-fasting period. Dehydration causes headache, and fatigue, possibly meddling with your worship plans.

Get enough rest by sleeping smart

What’s often recommended is sleeping early, right after night prayer, before waking up for midnight prayers.

Cleanliness is a part of faith

Keep your hygiene up when you're fasting. If you feel sluggish throughout the day, take a shower, and apply some deodorant to feel clean and fresh.

Do not be a couch potato

Exercise is extremely important although it can be a real challenge at times. Your productivity will take a top-notch if you do light exercise, as it improves digestion and boosts your energy levels. Inactive body loses the momentum to keep going, making you sluggish and tired quickly.

Bonus tip: Best time for Workout

If you are a fitness freak, exercising just before iftar is best. This will not keep you waiting for too long to slurp down some liquid to quench your thirst.
