8 ways to tackle temperature swing effects in your child

By Ayesha Ayath Aslam

Shifting frequently from hot weather to freezing temperatures affects children's health. Doctors warn of heat exhaustion as they note a rise in such cases.

Summer Flu

During summers, the frequent shift from sunny weather to air-conditioned indoors can stress the respiratory system causing ‘enterovirus’ aka summer flu.

Signs of Heat Exhaustion

Seek medical attention when you spot symptoms like fatigue, sore throat, and fever in your ward, which could lead to low immunity and develop infection.

No Chilled Water

Viruses thrive in cold items and dry places. So, avoid chilled water, ice creams, and unwashed fruits, as they can contract viral infections.

Beat the Thirst

Feeling thirsty denotes a low hydration level, so stay hydrated but don’t over-consume fluids. Check the kid’s urine color and adjust the intake accordingly.

Basic Precautions

Ensure appropriate clothing; limit outdoor activities during peak hours; use sunscreen; maintain a balanced diet and adequate sleep.
