A new chapter in global pediatric healthcare is underway. Sidra Medicine, a leading women’s and children’s hospital in Qatar, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), one of the top-ranked children’s hospitals in the United States. Together, they aim to enhance access to world-class heart care for children across the MENA region and beyond.
Signed in Doha, this agreement sets the stage for a powerful collaboration between two institutions known for their innovation, research, and dedication to child health.
Expanding Pathways to Advanced Pediatric Cardiac Care
Under this partnership, Sidra Medicine and CHLA will develop a joint program focusing on patient care, clinical research, and professional training in pediatric cardiology. This means better care and more treatment options for children with complex heart conditions in Qatar and across the Middle East.
Children in Qatar who need highly specialized cardiac surgeries not currently available locally may be referred to CHLA. Likewise, children from the region receiving care at CHLA will have the opportunity to return home for follow-up and long-term care at Sidra Medicine, creating a smoother, more connected healthcare journey for families.
“By combining our strengths and expertise, we are strengthening a culture of innovation and a shared vision for the future of pediatric care,” said Dr. Iyabo Tinubu-Karch, CEO of Sidra Medicine.
Knowledge Exchange and Training for the Next Generation of Experts
The collaboration also opens new doors for joint fellowships, clinical training, and research projects that will benefit healthcare providers at both institutions. From bedside care to the latest breakthroughs in cardiac surgery, doctors, nurses, and researchers will have greater opportunities to learn from each other.
“Our mission is to create hope and build healthier futures for children everywhere,” said Lara Khouri, President and COO of CHLA. “This collaboration enables CHLA to share its expertise and learn from the outstanding team at Sidra Medicine.”
Beyond cardiology, both institutions are exploring future partnerships across other specialties such as neurology and oncology, offering even greater possibilities for comprehensive pediatric care.
A Shared Commitment to World-Class Pediatric Health
Sidra Medicine’s Heart Center already delivers outstanding care for children with congenital and acquired heart diseases. With advanced facilities and a collaborative team approach, the Center is designed to support every stage of a child’s journey, from diagnosis to recovery.
“This partnership will open new avenues of care and cure for some of the rarest and most challenging heart conditions,” said Dr. Hesham Al Saloos, Division Chief of Cardiology at Sidra Medicine.
The agreement strengthens the global healthcare network and builds bridges between regions, expertise, and communities, with children and families at the heart of it all.
