GMU entered the THE World University Rankings for the first time in the 1001โ1200 overall band and is the only specialised medical and health sciences university in the UAE included in the 2027 edition.
The universityโs international outlook is reflected in its diverse academic community, with students representing more than 115 nationalities and faculty members from 56 countries. Its international collaborations also extend across education, healthcare and research.
Prof. Ammar Almaaytah, Dean, Quality Assurance & Institutional Effectiveness, Gulf Medical University, said: โA score of 99.4 is not luck. It is the result of years of deliberate work to recruit talent from around the world, build genuine international research collaborations and hold ourselves to global standards in everything we measure. Our first entry into THEโs World University Rankings gives us a clear, independent benchmark. Now the work is to raise our performance across all five pillars, so our performance across the other ranking pillars reflects the same quality the world now sees in our International Outlook.โ

The recognition highlights the UAEโs growing position as a destination for international health sciences education. GMU offers programmes across medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, physical therapy, biomedical sciences and healthcare management, with clinical training supported through Thumbay Groupโs academic healthcare network.
The university said the ranking provides an independent benchmark as it continues to strengthen its academic and research performance across THEโs five assessment pillars.
