Al Qassimi Hospital in Sharjah and Ibrahim Bin Hamad Obaidullah Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah, both affiliated with Emirates Health Services (EHS), have announced a collaboration in the field of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) treatment. This collaboration involves performing robotic endoscopy for hiatal hernia repair, revolutionizing the treatment of this type of condition.

Dr. Arif Al Nooryani, Director of Al Qassimi Hospital in Sharjah, emphasized that Al Qassimi Hospital and Ibrahim Bin Hamad Obaidullah Hospital are witnessing significant medical advancement through providing innovative treatment for patients suffering from chronic gastroesophageal reflux. This is particularly due to this collaboration combining the expertise of two leading healthcare facilities to offer a comprehensive solution that improves treatment outcomes and enhances patients’ quality of life.

Dr. Al Nooryani added that this collaboration represents a significant step in the efforts to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease by combining robotic-assisted hiatal hernia repair with endoscopic strengthening of the stomach entrance muscle. He also highlighted the possibility of creating a new sling mechanism that effectively prevents reflux, offering long-term comfort to patients.

Dr. Yousef Altair, Director of Ibrahim Bin Hamad Obaidullah Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah, praised this collaboration, emphasizing its role in enhancing healthcare services and their development in line with the goals of Emirates Health Services. EHS strives to improve the efficiency and quality of healthcare services in all its affiliated facilities. He also commended the efforts of the medical staff at Al Qassimi Hospital and Ibrahim bin Hamad Obaidullah Hospital, recognizing their pivotal role in providing best practices based on their rich experiences and expertise acquired throughout their career in the healthcare sector.

This collaborative effort focuses on utilizing robotic-assisted hiatal hernia repair and endoscopic strengthening of the stomach entrance muscle. These procedures surpass traditional surgery, including reducing post-surgical pain, which contributes to shorter recovery time and hospital stays. The precision and control offered by robotic-assisted surgery, along with the decreased risk of complications, make these procedures highly advantageous.

Traditional treatment methods often provide temporary relief, leaving patients in search of a more effective and sustainable solution by recognizing the need for a more advanced approach. Today, this innovative treatment protocol is available at Al Qassimi Hospital and Ibrahim bin Hamad Obaidullah Hospital to address this need.
