The Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) has discussed potential investment and cooperation opportunities in advanced pharmaceuticals with Moderna as the UAE looks to expand its capabilities in research, manufacturing and life sciences.
H.E. Saeed bin Mubarak Al Hajeri, Minister of State and Chairman of the EDE Board of Directors, met Dr. Noubar Afeyan, Founder and CEO of Flagship Pioneering and Co-founder and Chairman of Moderna, to explore areas for collaboration in advanced pharmaceutical industries.
The discussions covered research and development, knowledge exchange, pharmaceutical manufacturing and support for clinical trials. The parties also examined opportunities to combine Moderna’s scientific and technological expertise with the UAE’s investment environment and infrastructure.

The meeting forms part of broader UAE-US efforts to strengthen cooperation with the private sector and international companies in priority sectors. Potential partnerships could support high-value investments and contribute to the development of advanced medicines and therapeutic solutions.
Al Hajeri highlighted the UAE’s infrastructure, regulatory environment and investment incentives as factors supporting the expansion of global pharmaceutical companies in the country.
He also emphasised the importance of developing national capabilities in pharmaceuticals and life sciences, including building specialised expertise, expanding the pool of Emirati talent and strengthening knowledge transfer through international partnerships.
