Abu Dhabi, UAE: The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi has designated Burjeel Cancer Institute at Burjeel Medical City as a Centre of Excellence for Oncology, Breast Cancer, strengthening the emirate’s specialist breast cancer care services.
The designation recognises the facility’s integrated approach to breast health, covering screening, diagnosis, treatment, reconstruction, survivorship and long-term follow-up. Burjeel Breast Center operates as a coordinated, multidisciplinary service, bringing together breast surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, genetic counsellors and other specialists.
Patients have access to advanced diagnostic and imaging technologies, including 3D mammography, contrast-enhanced mammography, breast MRI, automated breast ultrasound and image-guided biopsy. AI-supported diagnostic tools and PET-CT imaging are also available based on clinical requirements.
According to Prof. Humaid Al Shamsi, CEO of Burjeel Cancer Institute, the Center of Excellence recognition reflects its vision to deliver breast care that meets international standards. “We believe every woman deserves the best opportunity for early detection, precise treatment, and compassionate, personalised care. By bringing together multidisciplinary expertise, innovation, research, and advanced technologies, we are redefining what comprehensive breast cancer care should look like,” he added.

Beyond medical treatment, the programme includes psychological support, nutritional counselling, rehabilitation, survivorship planning and supportive care. Private chemotherapy suites and scalp cooling services are also available.
The centre holds several international accreditations and certifications, including JCI Clinical Care Programme Certification for breast cancer and ESMO designation for integrated oncology and palliative care.
