The UAE has expanded its priority groups for seasonal influenza vaccination to include school students and people travelling for Hajj and Umrah as part of the 2026–27 national influenza awareness campaign.

The updated groups also include pregnant women, children aged six months and above, older adults, healthcare workers and people with chronic health conditions. Health authorities said vaccines have already been distributed across healthcare facilities, with vaccination and awareness activities also being carried out in schools.

Emirates Health Services (EHS) confirmed that influenza vaccines are available across all 121 of its healthcare facilities. Dubai health authorities are also conducting vaccination and awareness initiatives in schools, malls and other community locations.

Dr Nada Al Marzouqi, director of the Public Health and Prevention Department at the Ministry of Health and Prevention, said “Influenza vaccines are available free of charge across the country for citizens and residents who fall within high-risk groups.”

Residents are advised to wash their hands regularly, cover their mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, stay home when unwell and clean frequently touched surfaces.

“Depending on the severity of symptoms and individual health conditions, mild illness may initially be managed with appropriate treatment while monitoring the condition,” said Dr Lootah.
